City Camp Program

Our Year 5 and 6 students participate in a City Camp program that provides exciting opportunities to learn beyond the classroom while exploring Melbourne’s rich history, culture and landmarks.

Through a combination of educational experiences, independent travel and shared adventures, students develop confidence, responsibility and valuable life skills in a real-world environment.

A unique feature of the City Camp experience is the opportunity for students to travel to Melbourne by train and utilise Melbourne’s public transport network, including trains and trams, throughout their stay.

Learning to navigate public transport systems helps students develop independence, organisation, problem-solving skills and personal responsibility while building confidence in unfamiliar environments.

Throughout the camp, students visit a range of significant locations and attractions across Melbourne. Experiences may include visits to Parliament House, the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Queen Victoria Market, Captain Cook’s Cottage, Old Melbourne Gaol, O’Brien Icehouse and the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC).

These experiences provide meaningful connections to classroom learning while helping students gain a deeper understanding of Victoria’s history, government, community and sporting culture.

A key focus of the City Camp program is developing independence and preparing students for future learning opportunities. Students are encouraged to work collaboratively, manage their belongings, follow schedules and make responsible decisions in a supportive environment.

By participating in group activities, navigating new environments and working together throughout the camp, students strengthen their communication, teamwork and leadership skills while developing greater self-confidence.

The camp also encourages students to become active and responsible members of their community while fostering resilience, curiosity and a willingness to embrace new experiences.

City Camp provides a memorable and rewarding experience that combines education, adventure and personal growth.

The Year 5-6 camp is an important milestone in our camps program, offering opportunities for exploration, independence, friendship and learning beyond the classroom while creating lasting memories with peers and teachers.
