Roles and Responsibilities

Karingal Primary School operates within the policies, frameworks and requirements established by the Department of Education.

Clearly defined roles and responsibilities help support accountability, effective decision-making and the day-to-day operation of the school.

The Department of Education provides governance requirements, operational guidance, curriculum frameworks and policy expectations for Victorian government schools.

Department staff and regional supports may also assist schools in areas relating to compliance, workforce management, wellbeing, finance and school improvement.

The Principal is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the school, including educational leadership, staff management, implementation of Department policies and supporting student learning and wellbeing outcomes.

School Council supports the governance of the school through responsibilities including financial oversight, strategic direction, policy endorsement and community representation.

School Council works in partnership with the Principal to support the effective operation of the school.

Leadership staff, teachers and education support staff each contribute to the daily operation of the school and work collaboratively to support student learning, wellbeing and engagement.

All staff share responsibility for maintaining a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment for students and families.

Clearly defined roles and responsibilities help ensure strong governance practices and support the ongoing success of the school community.
