Overview
Starting school is an exciting milestone, and at Karingal Primary School we are committed to making the transition to school a positive, supportive and engaging experience for every child and family.
Our Prep Transition Program is designed to help children build confidence, develop familiarity with the school environment and create strong connections with staff and future classmates before beginning their first year of school.
We understand that every child begins school with different experiences, strengths and needs. Through a calm, welcoming and inclusive approach, we work closely with families and early childhood services to support a successful transition into primary school.

Our Approach
At Karingal Primary School, we believe successful transitions are built through strong relationships, consistency and a focus on student wellbeing.
Our transition program is designed to help children:
- Feel safe, confident and excited about starting school
- Become familiar with classrooms, routines and learning spaces
- Build relationships with teachers and peers
- Develop independence and confidence in a supportive environment
- Experience positive early learning opportunities before beginning Prep
Families are an important part of the transition process. We value open communication and encourage parents and carers to work in partnership with our staff throughout the year.
Our school offers both mainstream and Montessori learning pathways, allowing families to choose the educational setting that best supports their child’s learning style and development.

Supporting Families
We recognise that starting school is a significant transition not only for students, but also for families.
Throughout the transition process, families are provided with opportunities to:
- Attend school tours and information sessions
- Meet teachers and leadership staff
- Learn about classroom routines and expectations
- Ask questions and discuss individual student needs
- Access transition resources and important enrolment information
Our staff are committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where families feel informed, supported and connected to the school community from the very beginning.
We encourage families to communicate openly with us so we can work together to ensure every child has a successful start to school.
