Karingal Primary School acknowledges the Bunurong/Boonwurrung people of the South-Eastern Kulin Nation as the Traditional Owners of the land on which we learn and grow.
We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and honour their enduring connection to land and waters.
We thank them for caring for this coastline and its ecosystems since time immemorial.

As we welcome June and the arrival of the colder weather, it is important to remember to send students to school with warm clothing, including a jacket and clearly named items. Despite the cooler temperatures, our students continue to enjoy a busy and engaging term filled with learning opportunities and special events.
A huge thank you to everyone who attended and supported our recent Trivia Night. It was wonderful to see so many families, friends, staff and community members come together for an evening filled with laughter, friendly competition and plenty of fun. Events such as these strengthen the connections within our school community while also raising valuable funds to support programs and resources for our students.
A special thank you goes to Breigh who dedicated countless hours to planning and running the event. Your efforts helped make the evening a fantastic success.
Last week, students across the school participated in activities to recognise and celebrate National Reconciliation Week. This important week encourages all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to consider how we can all contribute to reconciliation.
Through classroom discussions, literature, artwork and learning activities, students developed a greater understanding and appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. These learning experiences support our ongoing commitment to creating an inclusive and respectful school community.
Our Koorie students have thoroughly enjoyed participating in the Junior Ranger Program, which has provided valuable hands-on experiences in environmental education and sustainability.
Students have explored native plants and animals, conservation practices and ways they can positively contribute to protecting our local environment. The program has been an excellent opportunity for students to connect with nature while developing a sense of responsibility and stewardship for the world around them.
A reminder that Monday 8 June is the King's Birthday Public Holiday and students are not required at school. In addition, Tuesday 9 June is a Student-Free Day, providing staff with valuable time for professional learning and curriculum planning. We look forward to welcoming students back to school on Wednesday 10 June.
Student reports will be available to families later this term. Due to the statewide industrial action undertaken earlier this year, Semester One reports will contain progression point data only and will not include written comments. This approach has been implemented across Victorian government schools.
We encourage families to review their child's report and continue to engage with classroom teachers regarding their child's learning progress and achievements.
As we move into the final weeks of Term 2, there are still many exciting learning opportunities ahead. Thank you for your continued support of our students, staff and school community. Together, we continue to make Karingal Primary School a place where every child is supported to learn, grow and thrive.
Take care and stay safe,
Samantha Cooke
Principal
Karingal Primary School

CONGRATULATIONS to the following students who received a classroom award in assembly last week.

We are grateful to have received another donation of seedlings which will be potted up by students over coming days/weeks (weather permitting!).

Trivia Night Delivers Another Evening of Fun and Friendly Competition
Our third annual Trivia Night was another fantastic evening, bringing together parents, carers, friends of the school and staff for a night full of laughter, friendly competition and some truly impressive displays of knowledge.
Hosted and MC’d by Miss Sam Cooke, the evening kept everyone entertained with a wide variety of questions that challenged teams across numerous categories. From general knowledge and popular culture to brain-teasing challenges and bonus-point opportunities, there was something for everyone.
The competition was incredibly close throughout the evening, with several teams remaining in contention right until the final rounds. While a highly knowledgeable parent and community table ultimately claimed the title, one of our staff teams put in an outstanding performance to finish a very close second. With only a narrow margin separating the top teams, the results remained in doubt until the final scores were tallied.
A special thank you goes to Breigh DeWolf and Miss Cooke for the incredible work they put into planning the evening. Together they researched and developed the trivia questions, while Breigh also organised the games and activities that kept everyone entertained throughout the night. Their hard work behind the scenes played a huge part in making the event such a success.
We would also like to thank Kazza Gibbs for expertly collating the scores after each round and keeping track of all the bonus points throughout the evening. Her organisation and attention to detail ensured the competition ran smoothly from start to finish.
Most importantly, thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event. Trivia Night continues to be a wonderful opportunity for parents, carers, staff and members of our wider school community to come together, share plenty of laughs and enjoy a memorable evening in great company.
Congratulations to all teams, especially our winning table and our staff team who came within touching distance of taking home the title. We look forward to seeing everyone back next year for another evening of fun, friendship and friendly rivalry.

National Reconciliation Week provided an opportunity for our students and staff to learn, reflect and engage in meaningful experiences that celebrated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and histories.
Our Montessori students enjoyed making lemon myrtle scones, learning about the use of native Australian ingredients while exploring the rich cultural knowledge and traditions of First Nations peoples. The activity provided a valuable hands-on learning experience and encouraged students to develop a deeper appreciation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
As part of National Reconciliation Week, Principal Samantha Cooke attended the Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency (VACCA) Foster Carers Dinner, where she participated in a traditional Smoking Ceremony. The evening provided an opportunity to connect with community members, acknowledge cultural traditions, and reflect on the importance of building respectful relationships and supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities.
National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
Held annually from 27 May to 3 June, National Reconciliation Week marks two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey. The week begins on the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum, when Australians voted to remove discriminatory clauses from the Constitution affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It concludes on the anniversary of the 1992 Mabo Decision, a landmark High Court ruling that recognised native title and acknowledged the enduring connection of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to their lands. Reconciliation is about strengthening relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians and working together towards a more just, equitable and reconciled nation.
National Reconciliation Week reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires learning, understanding and action from all Australians. As a school community, we are committed to fostering respect, inclusion and meaningful connections, ensuring our students continue to develop an appreciation for the histories, cultures and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
