Reminder of Our Vision:
To engage students To Sow Grow Nurture and Harvest
We are doing all of the above and more and we look forward to three big projects over the coming months!
We are delighted and grateful to have received a grant from the PK Foundation/ Peninsula Kingston Country Golf Club for a total makeover of the area overlooked by our Montessori classrooms!
I have included a couple of "Before" pics and will update you with progress photos.
Earlier in the week some Montessori students eagerly rolled up their sleeves and started to prepare the existing bare garden bed raking leaves, sweeping the brick paving, weeding, counting, sorting and sowing a big tray of seeds to be planted out next term!
It was an amazing and joyful experience enjoyed by all and a wonderful opportunity to hear what students would like to plant in their garden! Thank you Naomi for finding a little time slot to make this happen...
On Wednesday morning these students visited the Big Garden/Community Garden just in time to tumble the compost bin to which Julie had just added some worms (which were a little overwhelmed with all the attention and didn't surface for the students to see them!)
They tasted various herbs, mint being a favourite; they spotted snails in our veggies and discovered that Nasturtium leaves are water repellant...
Our new garden promises to be full of colour, scent, texture and movement while providing a little haven for students and teachers as well as birds, butterflies and bees...
The second big project is School Tree Planting Day on Friday July 25th when students will be involved in planting up the gardens to beautify the Mallum Street entrance.
The Mayor Cr Kris Bolam and some councillors will join us for this special event celebrating KPS being awarded the title of Tree Planting Day Ambassadors 2025.
Please let us know if you'd like participate between 9.30 and 11.00am. Coffee and tea will be available to keep us warm!
Thirdly, a number of raised garden beds have been donated and these will be perfect to create yet another colourful container garden on the asphalt area between junior classrooms/BER building and staff car park. Hence Term 3 promises to be very busy and productive indeed!
Last Tuesday Julie and I spent a beautiful day in the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne, for a Student Wellbeing in Nature Workshop.
We came home feeling inspired, heartened (and so cold!) but mostly so proud of our very own Community Garden!

Maxwell and Memphis were delighted by their efforts to dig out some big weeds to make way for our new compost bin!
Atticus and Elijah added some finishing touches to our gardening on Tuesday.
Enjoy the break and see you next term in the garden.
Marilyn
Established in 2020, the PKCF aims to support the Frankston community by funding local initiatives that address critical needs in education, health, and welfare.
This grant will kickstart a new garden project behind the Montessori classrooms, spearheaded by our dedicated Marilyn. Students from M2A, along with other classes, will collaborate with Marilyn to bring this vision to life, creating a vibrant and engaging outdoor learning space for all to enjoy.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to the PK Foundation for their support and commitment to enhancing our community. Their contribution will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on our students and the broader school environment.
We are excited to announce a Working Bee, scheduled for:
Date: Sunday 17th August
Time: 9.30am
The Working Bee is a fantastic opportunity for our school community to come together and contribute to the beautification and maintenance of our school grounds.
We will be focusing on preparing for the new Montessori garden space.
Tasks will include:
Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a first-time volunteer, there's a task for everyone.
To keep our volunteers energized, snacks will be provided. It's a great chance to enjoy some tasty food and connect with fellow community members.
We encourage all families to participate. Your involvement, no matter how big or small, makes a significant difference.
Let's work together to create a welcoming and well-maintained environment for our students.
Please keep an eye out for further information!
SCIENCE FAIR: 4.30-5.30pm
Karingal Primary School will be holding our FIRST Science Fair. The Science Fair will be an opportunity for students to create an independent science project and present this.
When choosing a research topic, think first about what sparks your child's curiosity. They need to answer questions on their topic that help them understand the world around them, or, how things work; it may be to learn about a new scientific interest or to solve a problem.
Students are to create their project in their own time.
If your child does not want to create a project, they are more than welcome to attend the fair and look at other projects.
CHEMISTRY CARNIVAL: 6.00-7.15pm
This chemistry-based topic features the best of chemistry activities, investigating states of matter, mixing and un-mixing, and the properties of materials.
Chemistry Carnival is organised and hosted by PrimeSCI! (Swinburne University of Technology).
Running for 75 minutes, the sessions are delivered by dynamic presenters and are packed with hands-on activity stations. Expect all sorts of icky gloop, dry ice, and heart-pounding explosions to make this an unforgettable evening.
Food and drinks will be availabe on the night to purchase.
Due to the positive feebback from our 'Walk to School' morning during Education Week, we have decided to make this a monthly event.
The FIRST Friday of every month will be a 'WALK TO SCHOOL MORNING'.
Meet Miss Cooke at Frank Green Reserve at 8.15am on the following Fridays:
This winter season, more people are getting and being hospitalised with influenza (flu), respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and COVID-19. Vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and others – it is never too late to vaccinate.
Keeping our school community well
We encourage parents, carers and students to:
* wash or sanitise your hands thoroughly and regularly, particularly before and after touching your face
* cough or sneeze into your elbow
* stay home if unwell and consult your GP or Nurse-on-Call as needed
* stay up to date with your flu and COVID-19 vaccinations.
Flu vaccinations
Flu vaccination is recommended for everyone aged 6 months and over. Some people are more at risk of severe illness from flu and are eligible for free vaccination as part of the National Immunisation Program.
Flu vaccinations can be booked through GPs and pharmacies. Many can give a COVID-19 booster at the same time.
COVID-19 booster
The COVID-19 booster dose is available for everyone aged 18 and over. Regular COVID-19 vaccinations are the best way to prevent severe illness or hospitalisation, especially in people aged over 65 and those at higher risk of severe illness.
Children aged between 5 and 17 years who are at risk of severe illness can also receive a booster dose. You can get your booster at your local pharmacy or GP. The COVID-19 vaccine clinic finder can tell you if you need a booster, and where to get one.
RSV vaccinations for mothers and babies
RSV is a common virus that causes colds and ear infections. In babies, it can cause severe illnesses like bronchiolitis.
The RSV vaccine is available for pregnant women as part of the National Immunisation Program. In Victoria, eligible babies can also get the RSV vaccine until Tuesday 30 September 2025. For more information, refer to Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) immunisation.
You can speak with your GP or midwife about the vaccine.
