Principal News - 6th June, 2025

Dear KPS Families,

As we embrace the cooler weather this week, please ensure your child wears their school jumper to stay warm. The recent rain has certainly marked the arrival of winter.

National Reconciliation Week (26 May – 2 June)

This year's theme, “Bridging Now to Next”, encourages Australians to build respectful relationships that honour the truths of the past while paving the way forward.

We were privileged to have a group of Aboriginal elders volunteer their time to teach Years 5 and 6 students the art of weaving. A heartfelt thank you to the elders and to Karen for organizing this special experience.

King's Birthday Holiday & Student Free Day

Please note that Monday, 9 June is the King's Birthday public holiday, and Tuesday, 10 June is a Student Free Day. Students are not required at school on these days. Enjoy the long weekend!

Reports & Parent/Teacher Conferences

  • Reports will be available on COMPASS on Thursday, 3 July. If you wish to discuss your child's progress, please contact the class teacher directly to arrange a meeting.

  • Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences are scheduled for Monday, 21 July, which has been designated as a Student Free Day by the School Council. A notification will be posted on COMPASS in the coming weeks to book your interview time.

Uniforms & Head Lice

  • Please check that your child has the correct jumper. Many students have misplaced theirs, and some named jumpers are not in lost property. If your child has someone else's jumper, kindly return it to the office.

  • Head lice are circulating again. Please inspect your child's hair, and consider treating it as a precaution.

School Tree Planting Day Ambassadors

We are proud to announce that KPS is one of two schools chosen by Frankston City Council Environmental Policy and Planning Team to be School Tree Planting Day Ambassadors!

As such, we will receive 300 Indigenous plants, some of which will be planted on Friday July 25th (official School Tree Planting Day)!

We are honoured that this special event will be attended by the Mayor, Cr Kris Bolam and councillors who will visit our school and Community Garden.

Thank you to Marilyn and her team for all their hard work and wonderful garden.

56 Lightning Premiership

On Wednesday, 11 June, our Year 5 and 6 students will represent our school in the Lightning Premiership across various sports. We wish them all the best and are confident they will make us proud.

National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week was held from May 27 to June 3, and is a time to reflect on the shared histories, cultures, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

The 2025 theme, "Bridging Now to Next," emphasized building strong, respectful relationships that honor the truths of the past while paving the way forward.

Karingal Primary School engaged in various activities across our classrooms, focusing on Indigenous culture and history to commemorate the week.

We also had Aboriginal elders teach students how to weave which was a very engaging activity.

Garden Update 060625 from Marilyn

A garden is not a place it's a journey! (Monty Don)

So it is with our garden! While some flowers are fading, others will soon bloom in their place as we celebrate the change of seasons... The garden truly is everchanging and magical!

BIG news as promised in our last newsletter:

In line with World Environment Day on Thursday June 5th, we are proud to announce that KPS is one of two schools chosen by Frankston City Council Environmental Policy and Planning Team to be School Tree Planting Day Ambassadors!

As such, we will receive 300 Indigenous plants, some of which will be planted on Friday July 25th (official School Tree Planting Day)!

We are honoured that this special event will be attended by the Mayor, Cr Kris Bolam and councillors who will visit our school and Community Garden.

Students will actively be involved with tree planting under our guidance.  Our main focus for the day will be planting up/enhancing the garden beds at the school entrance on Mallum Avenue.

We will also receive a delivery of mulch which will protect our new plants, retain moisture in the soil and suppress weeds along the way.

In addition, (date to be advised) students will have the opportunity to attend a "Living with Wildlife" presentation by Janet Wheeler, who is passionate about wildlife habitat and protection within our local environment.

We have been gathering various materials to foster Wildlife Habitats within our garden and hope the presentation will provide further inspiration...

More BIG news:

Frankston City Council Waste Circularity department has kindly donated a Compost Tumbler together with compost caddies for the garden, staff room and kitchen!

Over the coming weeks we'll be chatting with students about the benefits of composting, waste reduction, recycling and repurposing.

In the meantime, we have been offered a delivery of recycled compost from Frankston City Council when our garden beds are ready for planting!

We would be most grateful for some helping hands for the above activities and will keep you updated with delivery dates etc.

Gardening is a great way to keep fit (and warm) so as always, we look forward to seeing you in the garden!

Join us on Wednesdays around 10am (weather permitting) for a little gardening while engaging with students during their break, followed by a delicious morning tea.
