Principal News - 23rd May, 2025

Dear KPS Families,

This term has been bustling with engaging events, and there's still much more to look forward to. As always, we strive to deliver memorable experiences for our community.

Mother’s/Special Persons Day Morning Tea

Last Monday, we were delighted to host a heartfelt morning tea for our mums and special persons. Guests were treated to a coffee van and a delightful morning tea. Our Year 6 leaders delivered moving speeches they crafted themselves, a 'Dancing Queen' performance and a song led by Cailean on guitar. This was followed by a touching performance by Adele. A special thank you to May Toh for assisting with the hall setup and preparing the delicious morning tea, and to our Year 6 leaders, Adele and Terence Toh, for their contributions.

Education Week Celebrations

We celebrated Education Week with enthusiasm, featuring the Mother's Day/Special Persons Morning Tea, Walk Safely to School morning, an engaging Education Afternoon, a Japanese Day and a Trivia Night.
During the Education Afternoon, students and families journeyed around classrooms with passports in hand; they celebrated various cultures with fun activities. On Japanese Day, Karingal Heights PS students joined us and everyone embraced the Japanese culture. The Trivia Night finished the week and was a blast!
Thank you to all staff, students, and families for making this week a success at Karingal Primary School.

District Cross Country

Congratulations to all the students who are representing our school at the District Cross Country event today. Their dedication and sportsmanship is commendable, and we are very proud of them.

Reconciliation Week: May 27 – June 3

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. The theme for this year is "Bridging Now to Next", which focuses on connecting the past, present, and future, and urging Australians to look ahead and push forward together.  During this week, students at Karingal Primary School will engage in classroom activities to raise awareness and foster understanding of reconciliation.

Attitudes to School Survey

The Attitudes to School Survey (AtoSS) is an annual Department of Education survey that captures students’ attitudes to and experiences at government schools.
All government schools must participate in AtoSS, providing the opportunity for students from Year 4 to Year 12 to complete the survey. The survey provides data that helps the department understand student perspectives of their school and to improve the schooling experience. Data collected includes how students feel in relation to their school, their learning, peer relationships, resilience, bullying, health and wellbeing, physical activity, and life in general. AtoSS is aligned with the department’s Framework for Improving Student Outcomes 2.0. Data from the survey is used to inform school improvement and planning to support student learning and wellbeing.

We look forward to the remaining events and activities this term, continuing to build a vibrant and inclusive school community.

Stay safe and take care

Mother's/Special Persons Day Morning Tea Wrap Up

Karingal PS Mother’s Day morning tea is becoming a cherished tradition that offers a relaxed and heartfelt way to our celebrate mums. Many of our mum's/special persons came together to enjoy tea, coffee, and a selection of light refreshments.

They were privileged to hear from our Year 6 leaders about what mother's mean to them, followed by a 'Dancing Queen' performance and then a choir performance led by Cailean on guitar.

Adele (KPS former student and school captain) took time from her busy schedule and perfomed for our mother's too.

It was a lovely way to celebrate our mum's/special persons.

Thank you to May for her support in achievieng the beautiful morning.

Education Week 2025 Wrap Up

Karingal Primary School recently celebrated Education Week with a series of engaging activities that highlighted the importance of education and community involvement.

Mother's Day Morning Tea - Monday 12th May
An absolutely lovely way to begin Education Week celebrating our amazing mum's/special persons.

Japanese Day - Tuesday 13th May
Our Japanese school cultural day offered a unique opportunity to immerse our students in the traditions and daily life of Japanese students. It was an excellent opportunity for students to further their interest in Japanese culture, language, and traditions, gaining a deeper understanding through firsthand experience.
Thank you to Martha Sensai for her wonderful organisation of our Japanese day.

Education Afternoon - Wednesday 14th May
In the middle of the week, Karingal Primary School hosted an Education Afternoon focused on different cultures. Students and families engaged in hands-on activities, journeying through classrooms and celebrating different cultures. A check of completed passports was conducted by Miss Holmes, with our winner of the challenge being Amilie M. Congratulations!

National Walk Safely to School Day – Friday 16th May
The sun was shining for us when students, teachers, and families gathered to participate in the annual National Walk Safely to School Day. This initiative promotes road safety awareness, encourages physical activity, and fosters community spirit. The event aligns with the broader goals of National Road Safety Week, which runs from May 11 to 18, 2025, aiming to enhance pedestrian safety and environmental consciousness.
It was a wonderful way to start the day.

These events were part of Karingal Primary School's commitment to celebrating education and fostering a strong sense of community. The school extends its gratitude to the staff, students, and families for their enthusiastic participation and support.

Garden Update 230525 from Marilyn

BIG news to share with you... next newsletter!!

We celebrated our 1st Birthday after the beautiful Mothers/Special Persons' morning tea... *See photos*

Thank you to Coles Karingal who provided us with three large fruit platters for the special occasion!

The trays have since been repurposed as mini greenhouses/seed trays planted up by some students with Parsley, Poppies and Longan (fruit).

Julie, Jo and I enjoyed chatting to everyone who visited the garden all happily accepting cuttings, seeds and succulents planted by students as well as delicious little bunches of freshly picked herbs! *See photos*

The balance of our Vic School Gardens Program award (2024) voucher has been used to buy a number of plants including a dwarf lemon and mandarin tree, cherry guavas, blueberries (by popular demand!), beetroot, rainbow carrots, lettuce and more flowers, of course!

Many thanks to Darcy's Grandfather John who has built a beautiful shelving unit for our shed; much appreciated...

One more huge thank you to the sneaky group of students who led me (eyes shut) for the big reveal of the amazing poster they have been making for me; it means so much and I will treasure it! * See photos by Jo and Emily...

The poster proudly decorates the back wall of our shed!

As always we look forward to seeing you in the garden; join us around 10am on Wednesdays, with delicious morning tea always a treat!

Marilyn
