Principal News - 14th February, 2025

Dear KPS Families

Happy 2025! Welcome back to our families and I extend that welcome to our new families who have joined us.
I hope everybody had a wonderful and relaxing Summer break.
2025 has started exceptionally well back at school. Students have enjoyed being back at school and our environment has been calm and orderly.

2025 Focus Theme
This years theme is 'Kindness is Key and it Starts with Me'. We will be working each and every day to promote and expect kindness from our students, staff, parents and community.

Holiday Happenings
Over the holidays, a lot of maintenance has taken place at our school. This includes:

  • Pressure washing of BER building and front entrance of school;
  • Painting of brick wall along the office side ready to commence and prepare new garden bed;
  • BER building wall at front painted;
  • Decking outside BER building restained and repaired;
  • Steam cleaning of all carpets in all areas of the school.
We have also invested further in technology, and every Mainstream Year 3-6 student has access to a 1-1 device. Montessori and P-2 students have a class set between them for more access to technology.

2025 Booklists
Thank you to all parents/carers have paid for their child resources. Karingal PS purchase children's resources to save time and money for parents. It is an expectation that these resources are paid for as they become students individual property. if you have not paid for these, it would be greatly appreciated if you did so.

Staffing News
  • It is very exciting to announce that over the holidays Miss McCormack had her baby girl named Sienna. Both mother and baby are doing very well.
  • Ms Vine retired at the end of January after many years dedicated to Karingal PS. We wish Ms Vine all the best in her future endevours.
  • We welcome Miss Hunter and Miss Haider to Karingal PS. Miss Hunter is teaching 12B and Miss Haider is teaching P1B.
  • Mary Johnston is spending the first 6 months of the year in England. We welcome Miss R to teach Science.
2025 Prep Students
Our 2025 Prep students have settled in remarkably well in their new environment. Our Prep team of teachers and ES staff have supported them in their transition into 'big school'. It is lovely to see their excited faces and big smiles.

International Students
We have had the pleasure of hosting 7 International students from China over the last 3 weeks. They have been very impressed with our school and our kind and caring children. We will be hosting more International students over the course of the year.

Parking and Drop Off
Please be mindful of our 2 minute 'Kiss n Go' parking and also parking across our neighbours driveway. I know morning and afternoons are busy times of the day for traffic down Mallum Avenue. We all need to be a little patient.

Assemblies and Newsletter

These will take place on alternate fortnights.

Happy Valentine's Day

Stay safe and take care

Garden Update 140225 from Marilyn

Welcome to our first garden update 2025!

I came back to school on January 6th to a very, very sad garden indeed!

Having had no rain and such high temperatures our beautiful Sunflowers perished, however we were able to pick the last of our cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and strawberries to share with students attending the Camp Australia Holiday Program!

Amazingly, later that week Lyn from Bunnings contacted me to offer us 20 potted Sunflowers, totally unaware we had lost ours.... We are so grateful for her kindness and generosity as these at least brought some colour to our garden when students returned for Term 1!

Nathanael and Tom cared for their watermelons over the holidays and remarkably we also now have five growing rapidly in the garden!

Savannah's apple cucumbers look great and are almost ready to pick....

Thanks to our award from Victorian School Gardens Program (Most Engaging Garden for Play) last year, we are planning to use our voucher and start planting very soon, much to the delight of our students, including many new faces eager to join our Garden Club...

Early last week some students were fortunate and thrilled to see two beautiful Kookaburras perched above the Fairy Garden!

Please let the office know if you would like to join us in the garden; I know you will enjoy it as much as our students do... It certainly brings me much joy and I look forward to the year ahead getting our hands dirty and having fun!

Marilyn
