Community Garden Achievement

AN OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT... Karingal Primary School has been successful in an Award category in the 2024 Victoria Schools Garden awards.

Marilyn and some students will represent Karingal Primary School on Thursday 21st November at the VSGP Award Presentation Ceremony in the Botanical Gardens.

It has been exciting to see Marilyn's vision of an unused space come to life. A very well deserved award for.

Congratulations and thank you to Marilyn and her assistants for making our Community Garden such an enjoyable space.

A MESSAGE FROM MARILYN:

"To Plant a Garden is to believe in Tomorrow"

So excited to have received an award from the Victorian School Gardens Program 2024! This is a great achievement for our School Community and will help us to expand our garden!

We have some great projects in mind and will share those with you over coming weeks...

How lovely to now have some 3/4 and 5 students joining our Garden Club; everyone's welcome to drop in to say hello and to help.

Yesterday we had a sensory walk admiring Sweet Peas and their beautiful scent, Lamb's Ears which are grey and velvety to touch as well as scented Freesias and Buddleia butterfly bushes. We nudged Californian Poppies to pop open their flowers and discovered that Nasturtium leaves are water repellant! The students tasted mint, parsley, coriander and basil and we picked a lettuce to taste.

Thank you to Kevin (Stella and Hazel's Pop) who kindly installed three wind catchers in the garden.  They look amazing and add colour and movement to our garden!

Of the 40 Sunflowers planted recently, 37 have sprouted!! Cherry tomatoes and cucumbers are growing fast as our carrots...

One of the Grade 5 students helped me to fit a mesh tunnel to protect our strawberries from birds (and little hands eager to pick them before they ripen)!

Our budding landscape designers are constantly working on their project adding tunnels, walkways, bridges and moats! They would love to also some spouting or pipes; if anyone can help with those it would be much appreciated...

Lastly, two students were keen to grow watermelon; they planted some seeds recently and have proudly been looking after them and already the seeds have sprouted for all to see!

Hope to see you in the garden!

Halloween Disco

Our 2024 Halloween Disco was a howling success on Friday October 18th. A big thank you to DJ Helen for spinning the tunes and the P&F committee and extra parents who volunteered their time before, during, and after, to put on such an amazing event.

State Chess Tournament

On Thursday 24th October, Karingal Primary School hosted the State Chess Tournament.

We had a team of 5 students who attended and represented Karingal PS: Cohen (56A), Bentleigh (M3A), Ryan (M3A), Dillan (M3A) and Dathan (M3A). Reilly (56A) and King (M3A) students were invited, however, unavailable to attend.

132 students overall participated in the tournament, representing 30 Schools.

As a School we came 8th out of the 30! A wonderful effort and achievement from our team.

Cohen (56A) progressed through to the State Grand Final in November! CONGRATULATIONS Cohen.
