Principal News - 21st June 2024

Dear KPS Families

And just like that Term 2 is nearly over. 1 week to go. I would like to congratulate all our student for another wonderful term of learning and progress.

56 Lightning Premiership
On Wednesday 12th June, our Year 5 and 6s proudly represented our school in the Lightning Premiership. They participated in soccer, football and netball and achieved amazing results:
* Girls soccer: 1st place.
* Boys soccer: 3rd place.
* Football: 2nd place.
* Girls netball: 2nd place.
* Mixed netball: Great sportsmanship.

Kaboom Science Incursion
Students were exposed to an absolute feast for the senses, and educational entertainment at its absolute best with the Kaboom Science Incursion last week. Utililsing a fascinating array of scientific gadgets there was an incredible conglomeration of explosions, experiments, hilarity and audience participation in a 60 minute science spectacular!

Reports
Reports will be handed out to students on Thursday 27th June. If you would like to discuss anything with your child’s class teacher, please see them directly to organise a time.

Parent/teacher/student conferences will be held in Term 3.

International Sushi Day
On Tuesday 18th June, many students celebrated International Sushi Day with a sushi roll and/or rice paper roll. It was a lovely lunch!

Stargazing Night
We had an AMAZING response to our Stargazing Night on Thursday. 300 members of our community (students/parents/families) braved the cold and enjoyed looking up at the moon. The event was hosted by the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society at our school. Everyone present had the opportunity to learn about the Night Sky (including stars and planets) from expert astronomers, and use state of the art telescopes and binoculars to observe the craters on the Moon and get spectacular views of the planets.
Thank you to the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society for hosting the event, and to Mary Johnston for her expertise in organising a fantastic and informative event.

COMPASS School Management System
As of Term 3, Karingal PS will be tranisitoning to a new School Management System named COMPASS.

COMPASS is a school management solution that allows parents and carers to access up-to-date and meaningful information about our school and your child’s progress. COMPASS includes many different features, including the ability to:

  • Monitor your child’s attendance, and enter an explanation for absence or lateness
  • Communicate with your child’s teachers, and update your family contact details
  • View your child’s timetable and the school calendar
  • Monitor your child’s homework and assessment tasks
  • Download and view your child’s academic reports
  • Book parent-teacher conferences
  • Pay and provide consent for events and school fees
We very much look forward to having a system which can do all of the above. Further information will be sent home on how to log in and access COMPASS. As always, support will also be available to anyone who requires it.

Term 2 Finishes
Just a reminder that Term 2 ends on Friday 28th June at 2.30pm.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful break and look forward to seeing you all fresh in Term 3.

Take care and stay safe

Fundraising Update - 21st June 2024

This year our fundraising efforts will be put towards updating and improving the area outside the office near the Montessori rooms.

The plan is to turn the area into a quiet space where students can read, play board or card games and generally relax during recess or lunch if they don't feel like running around.

With the funds raised at recent events, we have purchased a brand new popcorn machine and a school branded marquee (which you may have spotted at our star gazing night!) These new additions will enhance our school events and activities helping to creating even more memorable experiences for our students.
