Principal News - 7th June 2024

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to Winter. At least we celebrated the last week of Autumn with some sunshine.

Just a reminder that children need to wear school jumpers to keep themselves warm as the weather turns cold.

Reconciliation Week: 27th May - 3rd June

National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights

A small group of Aboriginal students from Karingal PS proudly represented our school and attended the flag raising and smoking ceremony at Nairm Marr Djambana to begin Reconciliation Week. All students at Karingal PS participated in classroom activities for awareness of reconciliation during this week.

On Wednesday night, our Glee Club performed at the Mornington Peninsula Choral Festival. It was lovely to see and hear our Glee Club perform three songs at the festival. Thank you to the Glee Club students and parents for taking the time to represent our school. Also thank you to Mary for the time and enthusiasm she dedicates to our Glee Club.

Uniforms and Headlice
Can you please check your child has the correct jumper. We have many students with lost jumpers that are named and are not in lost property. If your child has someone elses jumper, can you please return it to the office.
Once again, headlice is going around our school. Please check your children's hair. A treatment wouldn't hurt 'just in case'.

56 Lightning Premiership
On Wednesday 12th June, our Year 5 and 6 students will be representing our school in the Lightning Premiership of their various sports. We wish them all the best and I am sure they will do us proud.

Kaboom Science Incursion

KARINGAL PRIMARY SCHOOL'S THERAPY DOG

Karingal Primary School would like you to meet our newest staff member... Lexi.

Lexi is our new Therapy Dog and will be working with Rachael as part of her role as Wellbeing and Disability Inclusion Coordinator. Lexi and Rachael have just completed a Therapy Dog and Handler course, ensuring that Lexi’s unique skills can be implemented into our school in the most effective and safest way possible.

Although Lexi is very excited to meet all our students at Karingal, it is important that we look after Lexi’s health and wellbeing as well. To do this, the time that Lexi will spend in the school will slowly increase as her stamina and skills improve. This means that not all students will necessarily get to interact with Lexi each and every day.

Over time, Lexi will begin to be introduced to the classroom environment and have more interactions with the students as a whole class. In the meantime all students will be educated in the correct ways to approach and interact with Lexi and what we all need to do to ensure everyone is safe, happy and healthy at our school.

2024 School Concert: MAYDAY

Dear Families,

In this year’s concert, the children will take you on a journey through all your favourite Science Fiction Movies, singing and dancing on every planet they visit.

We are starting early this year; rehearsals are already underway and we are thinking about props and costumes.

Many of the costumes we need are those dress-ups that you may have bought for a fancy dress party once, and then put them in the back of the cupboard.

If you think you may have a pair of Spock ears or a light sabre lurking around at home which you could lend us or donate to the props and costume department, please bring them into school and drop them off at the Music room.

Here is a wish list of the costumes we would like –

  • Buzz Lightyear – children’s sizes and adult
  • Wall-E – robot costumes - children’s sizes
  • E.T. - children’s sizes and adult
  • Star Wars – costumes and props – all characters, Jedi, Yoda, Storm Trouper etc …
  • Star Trek – Enterprise uniforms, Vulcan ears, Klingon masks etc …
  • Dr Who – the Toymaker (19th century soldier- Red Coat), Daleks, Cybermen etc …
  • Superman/girl – costumes or T shirts
  • Guardians of the Galaxy – all characters or Marvel comic heroes
  • Back to the future – Doc Brown
  • Prisoner/convict costumes

Performance date for your diary:
