Principal News - 24th May,2024

Dear KPS Families

We have made it to the half way mark of Term 2. Once again, how time flies! Already, this term has been extremely busy with a lot of fun events. Of course, there are stiil more to come. We never disappoint!

Mother's/Special Persons Day Morning Tea

We had a wonderful turnout of mums and special person's for our morning tea last Monday. They were spoilt with a coffee van and high tea. The Year 6 leaders presented heartfelt speeches they wrote themselves and Adele followed this with a performance of her own.
A very special thank you to May Toh who helped me set up the hall and made the delicious high tea. Also thank you to our Year 6 leaders, Adele Toh and Terence Toh.

Education Week
We celebrated Education Week in fine style. Walk Safely to School morning, Education Afternoon and Dress Up Day. Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths were all on display in our Education Afternoon. Children and families very much enjoyed doing activities in classrooms and then building their rockets. On Thursday, we dressed up as our future career. There were many police, teachers, construction workers and artists. Thank you to staff, students and families for celebrating education at Karingal Primary School.

District Cross Country
Congratulations to all the students that represented our school in the District Cross Country. We were successful in obtaining two second place awards overall. It was lovely to hear how supportive our students were of each other.

Reconciliation Week: 27th May - 3rd June
National Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.
The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2024, Now More Than Ever, is a reminder to all of us that no matter what, the fight for justice and the rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people will - and must - continue.
Students at Karingal PS will be participating in classroom activities for awareness of reconciliation during this week.

Take care and stay safe

Principal

Mother’s/Special Persons Day

We celebrated our mum's and special people in style at KPS. Monday was an absolutely heartwarming day as our preps pampered their mums and special people in honor of Mother's Day!

That's not all though! The day culminated in a spectacular high tea for all KPS mums and special persons', with every delectable dish prepared by one of our mums, May Toh! Adele provided entertainment with her angelic voice and captivated everyone's hearts as our queens sipped on tea and coffee from the @laughinglarkmobile.

To all the marvelous mums of our school, thank you for all that you do! Monday was our small way of showing just how much we appreciate you!?

Official Opening of our New Building

On Friday May 10th Mr Paul Edbrooke MP opened our new building.

We were joined by Mr Stan Szuty, Mrs Karen Luff, Justin Bolton (architect) and Daniel Potts (architect) to officially open our new school building.

Family Stargazing Night

Thursday 20th June @ 5.30pm

We are having a Family Star Gazing Night hosted by the Mornington Peninsula Astronomical Society at our school. It will complement the Earth and Space science that Years 3 - 6 will be studying this term. The event is open to all members of our school community.

This will be an opportunity for students and their families to learn about the Night Sky from expert astronomers. You will be able to hold part of a meteorite, learn about the stars and planets and use state of the art telescopes and binoculars to observe the craters on the Moon and get spectacular views of the planets. You can also look forward to views of Deep Sky objects such as the Jewel Box Cluster, The Tarantula Nebula and the double star Alpha Centauri, the closest star system to the Sun, which is likely to contain an Earth-like planet.

The evening will begin with a presentation in the new school hall followed by stargazing on the school oval.

Hot Dogs and hot drinks will be available on the night to purchase.

We will be celebrating International Sushi Day on Tuesday 18th June with a lunch of healthy sushi and/or rice paper rolls.

2024 School Concert: MAYDAY

Dear Families,

In this year’s concert, the children will take you on a journey through all your favourite Science Fiction Movies, singing and dancing on every planet they visit.

We are starting early this year; rehearsals are already underway and we are thinking about props and costumes.

Many of the costumes we need are those dress-ups that you may have bought for a fancy dress party once, and then put them in the back of the cupboard.

If you think you may have a pair of Spock ears or a light sabre lurking around at home which you could lend us or donate to the props and costume department, please bring them into school and drop them off at the Music room.

Here is a wish list of the costumes we would like –

  • Buzz Lightyear – children’s sizes and adult
  • Wall-E – robot costumes - children’s sizes
  • E.T. - children’s sizes and adult
  • Star Wars – costumes and props – all characters, Jedi, Yoda, Storm Trouper etc …
  • Star Trek – Enterprise uniforms, Vulcan ears, Klingon masks etc …
  • Dr Who – the Toymaker (19th century soldier- Red Coat), Daleks, Cybermen etc …
  • Superman/girl – costumes or T shirts
  • Guardians of the Galaxy – all characters or Marvel comic heroes
  • Back to the future – Doc Brown
  • Prisoner/convict costumes

Performance date for your diary:

Wednesday – 28th August – 7pm

Frankston Arts Centre

With your support this concert will be an epic adventure – Mary and Louise
