Principal News - 8th December, 2023

Dear Families

December has arrived. Officially, this will be the last newsletter for the year.

Thank you
I would like to extend an enormous thank you to the Karingal Primary School community for an AMAZING 2023. This includes staff, students, parents/carers and extended family. I am so very fortunate to lead a school with such decicated, supportive staff and parents, and wonderful students.

Christmas Carols
A beautiful way to begin the winding down of the year with our Christmas Carols on the oval. Once again, Mary and the staff have done an outstanding job getting students ready to enjoy performing their class song.

I would like to acknowldge and say thank you to the following:
  • Charli (former student), Breigh, Rhian, Helen and Rachael for selling sausages and drinks.
  • Bec, Mel, Stacey and Nat for hair braiding.
  • Russ for the lend of equipment.
  • Terence for monitoring sound equipment and back up guitar.
  • Two Bays choir for their performance.
  • Brass band for their performance.
  • Mr C for collecting the stage blocks.
  • Mary for her organisation of a wonderful concert.
  • Staff for their attendance and support.
  • Students for their performance/s.
  • Parents/carers and community for your participation.
Prep, School Leaders and Adele visit the Retirement Home
It was a privilege to walk to the Retirement Village with our Prep students, School Leaders and Adele. I was a very proud Principal seeing and hearing these students perform Christmas songs to the residents and staff of the retirement village. Our students bought joy (and a few tears) to the faces of the residents. The mayor also joined us and was impressed at the calibre of performance, enthusiasm and well behaved children.

Christmas Lunch: Friday 15th December
Our annual Christmas lunch will be celebrated next Friday. There will be performances from Glee Club and Adele and a special someone will visit.

Assembly: Wednesday 20th December
Our final assembly will be at 1pm on Wednesday 20th December. We will be introducing our new school leaders, and farewelling our current school leaders and Year 6 students. Everyone is welcome to attend.

I would like to wish everyone a safe and Merry Christmas. Have a fantastic holiday break and I look forward to seeing everyone back in 2024.

Take care

Samantha Cooke
Principal

Our Preps visit the Nursing Village

On Wednesday, Preps, School Leaders & Adele walked to the aged care home to bring some Xmas cheer.

Our students bought joy (and a few tears) to the faces of residents as they performed some Christmas songs for the residents and staff of the aged care home.

At least one resident commented they had forgotten how much FUN little events like this could be. Many of the residents commented on how well behaved and talented our students are.

After their performance the students gave each of the residents Christmas cards that they had made along with a Christmas cookie.

Mayor, Nathan Conroy, also joined us and was impressed at the calibre of the performance and with just how courteous our students were.

Our students should be pleased with how well they conducted themselves and for bringing so much cheer and enjoyment to the residents and staff.

WELL DONE KPS!

Karingal's Christmas Carols

We had a lovely afternoon (with the sun shining down on us) for our Karingal christmas Carols. Thank you to all families who came along and joined in the Christmas cheer. The picnic rugs, chairs and snacks created a wonderful atmosphere. Thank you to Mary Johnston and staff for organising and providing our students with the opportunity to perform once again.

The class performances, along with Adele and Glee Club were AMAZING.

A special mention and thank you to Two Bays Community Choir for their wonderful opening performance, and the Brass Band for their closing performance.

Acknowledgements and thank you's to the following:
  • Charli (former student), Breigh, Rhian, Helen and Rachael for selling sausages and drinks.
  • Bec, Mel, Stacey and Nat for hair braiding.
  • Russ for the lend of equipment.
  • Terence for monitoring sound equipment and back up guitar.
  • Two Bays choir for their performance.
  • Brass band for their performance.
  • Adele for her solo performance.
  • Mr C for collecting the stage blocks.
  • Mary for her organisation of a wonderful concert.
  • Staff for their attendance and support.
  • Students for their performance/s.
  • Parents/carers and community for your participation.

2024 Booklists Payments are OVER DUE

2024 Booklists are a mandatory payment.
Booklists include books and stationary your children use every day at school and they belong to your children.
If you have not paid your booklist fees, please do so by the end of Term 2.

Thank you to parents/carers who have paid 2024 Booklists.

School fees are voluntary contributions. In saying this, every little bit helps and goes towards your child/ren at Karingal Primary School. It would be greatly appreciated if you can pay school fees as well, and/or go on a payment plan. Thank you to families who have paid 2024 school fees.

A reminder letter has been sent home (this week) to families who have not yet paid their booklist fees.

Vale Peta Murphy MP

November 1st 1973 - December 4th 2023

Earlier this week our community received the devastating news that Peta Murphy MP Federal Member for Dunkley had lost her battle with breast cancer.

Peta was a much loved member of our local community, tirelessly serving with passion and charisma right until the very end.

Peta used her time in Parliament to not only advocate for Frankston residents but to also help lobby for change to the medical system and for cancer patients.

Peta drew on her own experiences fighting her own personal battle, never allowing her terminal diagnosis to deter her from her mission or goals.

Peta was loved by many, admired by many and was a fierce supporter of the Dunkley community.

She was a staunch advocate for our school attending many events over the years including our annual Christmas lunch, tree planting ceremonies and throwing her support behind our new build project.

The loss of Peta is a big one for our community and is felt deeply.

On behalf of Karingal Primary School, we send our sincere condolences to Peta’s husband Rod, her family and her gorgeous puppies Bert and Ernie.

Vale Peta.

Indigenous Mural Complete

The mural outside the staff room is complete...

Thank you to the hard work of Aunty Kazza Gibbs, Jade Coombes, Bec Woodman and Jazmin Knight.

Aunty Kazza explains what each part of the mural represents:

The centre represents the school, the hub of learning. From there it branches out to the families with strong connections and is surrounded by the symbol for children who are all supported by the hub with strong connections. On the sides we have the trees of knowledge with the fingerprints of all the students and the handprints of the teachers to show we are all connected.

Mobile Phone Ban reminder

A reminder that the Department of Education has in place a mobile phone ban that requires students who bring mobiles phones to school to have them switched off and securely put away during school hours.

The department is requiring all schools to ensure this ban is in place and enforced from the start of the 2024 school year.

The ban applies equally to all government schools right across the state.

This helps ensure that school is a learning environment free from unnecessary distractions and disruptions.

By ensuring mobile phones are kept away at recess and lunch times, students can interact with each other face-to-face, without the distractions and social pressures that mobile phones can cause.

We ask for the support of all our families, staff and students in continuing to support the implementation of this policy in our school.

Further information

Exceptions: For a small number of students with particular health needs, an exception to the policy may be granted.

Emergencies: In the event of an emergency or if you need to immediately contact your child, I ask that families contact the school office who will pass on a message as required.

School mobile phone policy: A copy of our school’s local mobile phone policy, which implements the government’s mobile policy in line with our local context, is available on our school website.

Parent support: The Mobile phones in schools webpage provides links to resources for families to help them balance their children’s time using mobile phones.

If you have further questions, please contact the administration office.
