Principal (Acting) News - 1st September, 2023

Dear Parents/Carers

It is officially Spring today. The sunshine has been appearing over the last week which has been lovely to see and feel.

I would like to officially announce that as of next term, I will be the substantive Principal of Karingal Primary School. This excites me very much and I look forward to continuing to lead our amazing school into the future. I would like to thank all students, staff and the community for your support over the last 7 years.

SCHOOL CONCERT
This year's school concert was better than ever. I was extremely proud of all children who performed on stage and tried their best. the songs were great to 'bop' along to and the dancing was fantastic. A special congratulations to the main cast who were outstanding actors.

Mary and Miss Holmes have certainly outdone themselves. Thank you to the both of them, along with all staff, parents and our wider community.

FATHER'S/SPECIAL PERSONS DAY 
Father's Day breakfast will be on Saturday 2nd September (tomorrow). We would love to see as many father's/special persons with their child/ren attend breakfast.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES
Parent/teacher/student conferences will be held on Monday 4th September and Wednesday 6th September. Notices for times/days have gone out this week. Please make sure you have returned these to your classroom teacher to secure a time.

BOOK WEEK/SUPERHERO DAY: Tuesday 5th September
Karingal PS will celebrate Book Week in Week 9. It has been a decision to combine the Book Week Parade with the Superhero Day Parade on Tuesday 5th September at 9.15am. Book Week activities will also take place during Week 9.

AN EVENING WITH ADELE
Our talented student Adele, in an effort to raise money for a school fundraiser, will be performing a number of her favourite cover songs from Ed Sheeran, Beyonce, Lady Gaga just to name a few... Proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to our school, to assist with the costs of resurfacing the Basketball Court. Adele will be performing at 239a Beach St, Frankston, on Saturday 9th September, 6-7.30 pm. Tickets are $15 and we would love to see as many members from our school community as possible to support Adele.

CONGRATULATIONS to Adele who entered the 'Take the Mic' singing competition on Sunday 20th August and came in 2nd place (22 performers in total).

FOOTY DAY
Tuesday 12th September will be our annual Footy Day.
Please come dressed in your footy colours/team colours. We will have a parade at 9.15am.

A reminder to order your hot food lunch.

YEAR 56 CITY CAMP

Our Year 5 and 6s attend City Camp on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday in the last week of term. This is a wonderful opportunity to explore Melbourne's beautiful city. Thank you to Mrs Mac for organising the camp and to the staff supporting and attending the camp.

TERM 3 FINISH
Term 3 will officially conclude on Friday 15th September. This will be a 2.30pm finish.

Chess Tournament 23rd August

On Wednesday 23rd August, KPS were host to the Northern Star Chess Primary Open Zonal Competition.
It was lovely to see the encouragement shown to each other (and to students from other schools), as well as humility, resilience and perseverance. Several students even forfeited their games so that their opponent could win their first point ever! ?
 
Congratulations to all our students who competed. The combined scores put Karingal Primary School in second place overall! ⭐️

Congratulations to Kaihan who won the silver medal in the Year 5/6 competition, and to Bentleigh B who won the bronze medal in the Year 3/4 competition. 

Congratulations to the following students who received Distinction certificates:
* Jacob D (8th place)
* Hugo D (10th place)
* Riley T (15th place)

Equally importantly there were many players taking part in their first tournament today.  These students always deserve just as much recognition as the medallists and the more experienced players.

Come and support Grade 5 student, Adele, and KPS to raise funds for our Basketball Court resurfacing

Dress up as your favourite book character or be a superhero for Muscular Dystrophy Australia’s National Superhero Week!

KPS families are welcome to join us for our annual dress up parade in the school gym at 9:15am.

Footy parade will be at 9.30am. Parents are welcome to attend and cheer.

Our amazing field bees ? participated in the District Field Athletics.
On Wednesday August 30th our amazing field bees braved the weather and participated in the District Field Athletics

A huge congratulations to our students who participated in district athletics today. They demonstrated our school values, competed with determination and did their best!

School Council Update September 1st 2023

Hello KPS Families

Firstly I would like to CONGRATULATE Sam on her appointment as Principal of Karingal Primary School.

Sam has been in the role of acting Principal since the beginning of Term 2 last year and will commence her role as the substantive Principal at the beginning of Term 4. 
We are very grateful to ALL of you who give up your valuable time to assist with various fundraising activities and elsewhere within the school. 

In order to volunteer you do need to have a Working with Children Check (WWCC). This is FREE for volunteers. A copy of your WWCC card needs to be shown to the office staff to be photocopied and you need to include Karingal Primary School as an organisation on the WWCC.

If you need assistance in applying for your WWCC please let the school know.

Our Facebook page is where we ask for volunteers for events, give updates on what we have upcoming, and let you know other information.

We have a meeting this Wednesday, 6th September, at 2:30pm where we will be organising Term 4 events, including a disco, Colour Splatacular Fun Run and Christmas Lunch.

We hope to see you there.  
We are looking at having a market in conjunction with our Christmas carols in December.  

We seeking expressions of interest from our KPS families who may wish to have a stall at our market. 

Expression of Interest forms will be available at the office from Monday 4th September.

These will then be taken to the school council in October for a final decision on holding the market.
