SubscribeSMILE SQUAD IS COMING TO KARINGAL PRIMARY SCHOOL
Dear Karingal Primary families,
The Smile Squad team from Peninsula Health are coming back to our school in Term 3.
Smile Squad is the Victorian Government free school dental program.
This means all students can get a free dental check-up, preventive services, and treatment at school.
How to access free dental care:
Smile Squad need your consent before they can provide services. Consent is usually provided by a parent or guardian.
Sign up to Smile Squad at: https://bit.ly/smilesquadvic
OR use the below QR code:
Please complete and submit the consent form by Friday July 14.
Paper copies of the consent form are available. Please contact the school office if you would like to request one.
The electronic consent form can be translated into more than 100 languages, and the paper form is available in 13 languages.
The children are busy practising for our whole school concert next Term.
True Colours
Monday 21st August – 7pm
Frankston Arts Centre
Tickets $20
Please save the date and invite family and friends to come along to enjoy the show and support our school community. Tickets will go on sale next term.
Costumes: Over the holiday break please get your children’s costumes together. The school has a limited supply of costumes that we can lend out, but children often prefer to wear their own costume from home.
Most costumes are simple this year. Each grade has a colour theme for their dance and children need to wear clothes of that colour.
Prep A and Prep/1A – Yellow – Walking on Sunshine & Happy
1/2A – Purple – Purple People Eater
M12 – Pink – Better when I’m dancing (Black pants/skirt + pink tops/accessories)
M23 – Orange – We go together
3/4A – Blue – I’m Blue (Dark blue shades + white gloves if you have them)
3/4B – Green - You’re so Vain
5/6B – Red - We’re not gonna take it
5/6A – Black & White – Black or White (Black pants, white top, black vest/jacket)
M3A – Rainbow Colours - This is Me
(Please ask Ms Holmes or Deirdre which colour your child is to come dressed in.)
We will hold a working bee to make props and costumes next term after school on Thursday 27th July – all welcome - come along ready to paint, glue, sew and stick things together.
Thanks Mary & Louise
Hello KPS Families
What a busy few weeks of term it has been! It is difficult to believe that we are already halfway through the school year!
There has been lots happening around the school starting with our whole school review. This process takes place in all state schools every 3 years and enables us to set goals moving forward. Teachers, students, and parents have all been involved with the review and we look forward to receiving our recommendations from the department.
Our new building is slowly progressing! As you can appreciate this has been a delayed process due to a shortage of trades and supplies. We are now a few months behind where we thought we would be this time last year. Hopefully, we will have a better idea of completion soon but for now, we sit and wait patiently for the builders to finish their work and look forward to when we can announce we are officially moving in!
Starting next term, we will keep you updated on how the build is progressing and even give some sneak peeks of what the finished building will look like inside.
You may have also noticed that our old Art Room and Hall have been demolished (as part of the wider build project) with this area set to gain a beautiful Yarning Circle (a concept used by many First Nations people as a space for active listening and reflection) and a small multi-purpose court which will have an adjustable basketball ring.
Other events this term have been our Easter Bonnet Parade, Mother’s/Special Persons Day, Drumming Incursion, LOTS of sports events (with excellent results for our KPS students!), and our second annual Walk to School morning accompanied by members of Victoria Police from Frankston Police Station.
Phew! It has been a busy term indeed and we have just as much (if not more!) planned for Term 3 and 4 but more about that after the holidays!
There has been much discussion of late as to what our fundraising money will go toward (and may I take this opportunity to thank all KPS families for their ongoing support of our school fundraising!) I am pleased to announce that our MAJOR FUNDRAISING GOAL for this year is to have our school basketball court resurfaced and upgraded so that it is safe and usable!
We have a new fundraising thermometer in our office area which we will update regularly once we have a firm figure to work towards so that the kids (and their families) can see what we need to raise to reach our goal! We have not yet locked in a contractor to complete the work but initial estimates are up towards $40,000 - a big, yet achievable goal to work toward!
Wishing all of our wonderful families a great school holidays, we look forward to seeing you all next term.

We had 2 Netball, 2 Soccer and an AFL team compete on the day and all teams came away with some wins and losses.
The weather definitely tried to dampen the day but we were so proud to see all our students give it their best and finish with big smiles at the end of the day.
Well Done to all our teams and thank you to our amazing staff for all the time spent coaching.
Hosted by Basketball Victoria, the National Junior Classic runs during the King’s Birthday long weekend, inviting 128 teams from clubs from across Victoria and Australia, in age groups Under 12s to Under 18s.
What an experience for the girls today (June 12th, 2023).
Names on the big screen, being introduced individually by the commentators to the crowd, game live-streamed, pumping crowd chanting, screaming and stamping their feet, amazing presentation with huge medallions and more photos, speeches, then back to the coaches house to celebrate even more!
Once in a lifetime kind of stuff.
Go Blues!
Under 12 girls National CHAMPS.
They tested materials to see which were better at allowing light through and transferring sound energy.
They learned how light and sound travels and the difference between light and sound waves.
They even joined hands together to make a circuit with their bodies which created energy to light up a globe! 😮 âï¸
