Family Fun Afternoon

We had 57 families participate in the Family Fun Afternoon last Friday. Our school was a BUZZ of activity with laughter and silliness. It was a wonderful way to finish off the week.

Congratulations to the following families who won the prizes:
IST PRIZE: Ivy and Hunter

We appreciate the support of Karingal Hub with their generous donations for the prizes.

Thank you to Miss Holmes and the school leaders for organising and running the events. Thank you to staff who attended and supported and thank you to families who participated in the fun!

NAPLAN
It's the time of year where our Year 3 and 5 students will be participating in the NAPLAN testing. This year, it is earlier than usual (previously in May). NAPLAN testing will start on Tuesday 14th March and conclude Friday 24th March. Our teachers have been working hard with our students to prepare them to do their best in the testing.

Smile Squad
Smile Squad will be making a return visit to school on Wednesday 15th March. They will be seeing those students who provided consent and received fluoride varnish at their last visit.

School Council Elections

Nominations to be a part of School Council have closed. Thank you to the parents/carers/staff who have submitted their nomination. Further information will be provided next week.

Acting ABee 9th March

It is that time of year, where our Year 3 and Year 5 students complete the annual National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy, or as we all know it, NAPLAN.
The students will complete an online assessment for reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy. We have spread the testing over a week to give the students plenty of rest between each assessment, beginning on Wednesday 15th and concluding Friday the 24th. We allow extra days to complete make up tests, if students are absent.

Whilst we have exposed the students to the testing style of NAPLAN, to ease any nerves, we understand that some students may feel a little anxious. We encourage students to do their best and if they are feeling a little nervous, to talk to their teacher and we can provide them with as much assistance as we can, prior to the test. NAPLAN provides the teachers with further data, to see if students are transferring their learnt skills into multiple contexts. The data will also guide teacher’s future planning at the point of need for these students.

If you have any questions or concerns about NAPLAN please give me a BUZZ.

Since our last newsletter, the school was a definitely a HIVE of ACTIVITY! The colony came out to enjoy a Family Fun Night and it was wonderful to see so many smiling faces. It was also great to meet new members of the colony and even have a special visit from bees gone by.

To keep up to date with all the colony news and future events and excursions, please make sure you have downloaded the SCHOOL STREAM app and remember you can always double check dates on this email by clicking the Calendar tab, located at the bottom of the home page.

Buzzing Off for now

Smile Squad Returns to KPS

Wednesday 15th March

Smile Squad six month fluoride varnish visit

The Peninsula Health Smile Squad team are heading back to our school to complete six-monthly fluoride varnish applications for those students who have provided consent. Fluoride varnish applications help make sure students have the best chance of preventing tooth decay, so we’re excited Smile Squad are coming back.

Consent for this fluoride varnish application was provided when students’ initial consent forms were returned. However, if anyone has changed their mind and do not wish to receive a fluoride varnish application, they can contact Peninsula Health directly to let them know. Please contact the Smile Squad team via:

Email: dentalfrankston@phcn.vic.gov.au

The Smile Squad team look forward to visiting soon.
